Today, full reports have been issued for all S4 pupils. These are very encouraging and contain a great deal of information and advice that will be helpful to the pupils in the run up to the summer examinations.

The S5/6 prelim examinations began on Monday. The arrangements are going well and most of the candidates have remained positive and confident.

S3 pupils studying Business Management spent a successful morning yesterday at a Core Skills seminar. This covered teamwork, problem solving and communication, this was an enjoyable morning and feedback has been positive.

On Wednesday evening, Knox pupils joined with peers from 3 other East Lothian secondary schools to present an evening to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day: the Legacy of Hope. This was a thoughtful and moving performance, much appreciated by the audience at the Brunton Theatre. The event was co-ordinated by Mr Campbell and was a great credit to the pupils and staff of East Lothian.

This week, progress reports have been issued for all S3 pupils and there was a very busy parents’ consultation evening on Wednesday for this year group.

The S5/6 prelim examinations begin on 25 January. I’m sure you all join me in wishing the pupils success in these important examinations.

During assemblies on Wednesday, members of the S6 Charities Committee gave a very moving presentation on the earthquake in Haiti. This was followed yesterday by a whole school collection, all the monies are yet to be counted, but the pupils and staff gave generously and by mid-morning the collection was estimated to be over £700.

Best wishes to Ms MacLeod (PT Support for Pupils) who goes on maternity leave today. During Ms MacLeod’s absence, Mrs Ingham (Depute) will lead the Support for Pupils Faculty.

Following the upheavals of last week due to the heavy snow, it has been business as usual this week. The pupils have behaved very responsibly in the weather conditions and have avoided ‘ice-related’ accidents.

The S5/6 pupils are preparing for the prelim examinations that begin on 25 January. Hopefully, the cold weather has encouraged them to stay indoors and study!

Yesterday, all S4 pupils undertook a ‘Live’n Learn’ seminar. These were timed to build on the prelim results and to provide further guidance on successful revision and study.

Today, the school hall has been alive with the sound of African drumming. It was the turn of S1 Lammerlaw to try the drums, dancing and singing as part of the Destination Africa section of the ACE AM. Although it was noisy and hard work, the pupils had a very enjoyable time.

TRANSPORT UPDATE

Knox Academy, as with other schools across the council, has now re-opened following the poor weather conditions last week. 

We are back to business as usual!

Transport Update:

Due to adverse road conditions the following route will not operate:

  • Route 121 to Yester Primary School / Knox Academy - pick up points - Kilpallet, Snawden

The following routes are running a reduced service:

  • Route 157 to Knox Academy / St Mary's RC Primary School - pick up points - Garvald Mains / Carfrae there are no passing places therefore pupils will be picked up and dropped off in Garvald Village
  • Prentice Coaches will operate a large bus from Gifford Main Street to Knox Academy only - the bus is unable to reach outlying areas.

Please continue to listen to Radio Forth if the weather conditions deteriorate again as they will be notified of any school closures.  This will be in addition to information posted on the East Lothian Council website.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Knox Academy, as with other schools across the council, has now re-opened following the poor weather conditions last week. 

We are back to business as usual!

The current transport situation is that buses have returned to normal service, with the exception of Service 158, which is still likely to be running from the centre of Gifford.

Please continue to listen to Radio Forth if the weather conditions deteriorate again as they will be notified of any school closures.  This will be in addition to information posted on the East Lothian Council website.

SCHOOL OPEN: Friday 8 January

Knox Academy is open to both staff and pupils today - Friday 8 January.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back after an extended Christmas break. School resumes at 8.44 am.

The current transport position is that most buses will be running as normal. However, there will be only one bus leaving the centre of Gifford (No. 158). The services 157 and 159 to outlying areas will not be running. This position could change if the weather deteriorates, please continue to check the East Lothian Council website.

SCHOOL CLOSURE: Thursday 7 January

Following an East Lothian Council emergency conditions meeting it has been decided that all East Lothian Schools will remain closed to pupils tomorrow - Thursday 7 January. 

It is hoped that conditions will improve over the course of tomorrow which will allow us to prepare for a full opening on Friday.

Decisions about school openings on Friday 8 January will be made by 3 pm tomorrow and will be intimated via East Lothian Council's website.

SCHOOL CLOSURE: Wednesday 6 January

Following the most recent Met Office forecast East Lothian Council have been advised that there will be severe snow falls (up to 15 cm) throughout East Lothian from 6 pm this evening (Tuesday).

As a consequence of this forecast all East Lothian Schools will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday 6 January) for pupils.

Decisions about school openings on Thursday 7 January will be made by 3 pm tomorrow and will be intimated via East Lothian Council's website and on this website.
