An exciting opportunity is being offered for students and their parents/carers and teachers to visit construction sites around the country. This is an entirely free event!

Construction sites and new buildings will be opening their doors, providing insight to projects shaping the region, and a chance to see behind the scenes of one of the UK's leading and innovative industries.

The events will provide a unique opportunity to witness first-hand the scale and complexity of major construction developments and also demonstrate an industry-wide commitment to welcoming a wider, more diverse range of talent into the sector.

The collaborative initiative is the first of its kind for the sector and intends to raise the profile of the industry, challenge stereotypes, and to attract talent into the industry.

The events are being organised for the autumn by the UK Contractors Group (UKCG), the Industry Training Board and Sector Skills Council - CITB-Construction Skills, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

To get involved, and to find sites near you, please go to the Open Doors Weekend website where new sites are being added each week.

Here's a little bit about China

China is a world apart. The third largest country in the world; it offers visitors a myriad of landscapes to choose from; green paddy fields and beautiful national parks branch out to arid deserts and dizzying misty mountains. China has one of the richest cultures in the world, with dynasties steeped in tradition, turmoil and legend. Ancient Chinese culture has long been of fascination to the rest of the world as it offers completely new and distinct perspectives, beliefs.

Expedition Highlights:

  • Cultural exploration of Beijing
  • Great Wall of China
  • Xi’an and the Terracotta Army
  • Remote trekking in Sichuan province
  • Participate in a local community project
