KNOX HOCKEY

Our S3 Girls Hockey squad attended the St Georges S3 Hockey Tournament at Peffermill on Friday.

The St Georges Hockey Tournament is a fiercly contested event and is mainly attended by private schools in Edinburgh. That said Trinity, Firhill and our East Lothian colleagues North Berwick also attend. The hockey is played to an excellent standard with most teams training at least twice a week ‘in the pursuit of excellence’. Our teams currently train once a week together and even then numbers at training are inconsistent. I am very pleased and proud of how our S3 girls represented themselves and the school. They worked hard, and ‘played fair’. We even had one player (Emma D) that was prepared to play in goals, even thought she had never done it before! This in itself was a reflection of the individual and team’s character. The event organiser even made special tribute to how well our girls conducted themselves.

I am very pleased to say that our S3’s often have 13 or so players that are committed to training and playing. Other year groups have not seen this commitment recently and this has been affecting training and match day fixtures.

My question to all our hockey players and teams would be would be that while individual effort and team ethos is unquestionable - on match days. Can we honestly look at ourselves and say that our personal commitment to our teams training is where it needs to be? Do we approach practice, the way we might do if we were learning to play an instrument or learning to paint for instance?

We have one more inter school fixture away this Satarday vs Queen Victoria and the Senior 7 a side on Friday.

Lets look to finish the season on a high!
