Welcome back one and all!
We’ve had a summer of stunning weather (some of the time), inspiring achievement at Glasgow 2014, and, hopefully, some time to rest and recharge the batteries.
When the staff gathered for the first of their in-service days on Monday I was delighted to welcome back Mr Doig (Science and Physics) and Ms Waters (P.E.) from their time away from school. I was also able to extend a welcome to our NQTs: Ms Hunter (Science and Biology), Ms Dill (R.M.P.S.), Mr McGinley (Modern Studies), and Mr MacDonald (Art & Design). Joining them are our other new members of staff: Ms Reynolds (Art & Design), Ms Ferrier (English), Ms MacPhee (P.E.), Ms Mason (P.E.) and Ms Falconer who will replace Mr Young as our new Depute (although she can only join us properly on the 16th September).
There’s a lot going on already, so keep an eye on this update and the school calendar on the website. On Monday 25th August it’s the S1 and S6 photographs. S1 pupils will be called out of class in the afternoon to get their portraits done and S6 have been told as to when they can pop down to the Library for their “close ups”. Also a reminder that the first Parent School Partnership meeting of the session will be held in school on the 3rd September at 6.15pm. Any parent is welcome to attend. Finally, on the dates front, we are having our UCAS evening for pupils and parents on the 4th September. Pupils applying for university will get more details nearer to the time. I would encourage parents of our seniors to pop along to get questions answered and find out about the process.
Can I also remind parents to check that your youngster is properly attired for school? The Dress Code is simple and most pupils abide by it. The major bone of contention seems to be shoes. Shoes should be black – there should be no other colour visible – no white soles, coloured eyelets etc. Pupils not wearing Dress Code will get demerits which can result in parents getting letters and being invited in to school to discuss any issues. If any parent has a problem with providing Dress Code owing to financial constraints, please give me a call and your case will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Have a very good weekend.
S Ingham
