In association with all other East Lothian Secondary schools, we use a well respected system to assess and monitor learners, to help predict future achievement and monitor and track progress. We use a system which is administered and developed by CEM (Centre for Education and Monitoring).

Learners will complete three, one off assessments in May of S2 on a computer. Each assessment will last 45 minutes and will focus on three areas, namely Reading, Science and Mathematics. These three assessments are known collectively as Curriculum Based Assessments and are developed by Durham University to measure developed abilities that can help predict future achievement.

These Curriculum Based Assessments provide us with further information to enable us to fully support your child in his/her academic progress and allow us to track and monitor effectively. It is important to note that this does not in any way replace our regular school and national assessments. Rather we use this information to enhance our existing measures.

Second year pupils will have the opportunity to undertake the three separate assessments from the week beginning 2nd May 2016 over a two week period, in Maths, English and Science lessons.

Hopefully our learners will enjoy the challenge! Please note that these are specifically designed not to require any preparation or revision. This said it is important for pupils to try their best in such assessments to help give a true measure of their abilities.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
